Bio:

A native of Atlanta, Stansbury attended Auburn University in 1990. While there, he received his first notoriety with a fluke painting. One afternoon on a study break, he found some old wood and decided to paint the words "Free James Brown, " a phrase he and his buddies coined in high school. He then proceeded to nail the piece of wood to the outside of his ramshackle house and the rest, as they say, is history. Around campus his house became known as the "Free James Brown" house, and those words are still there today. Stansbury also found himself to paint murals on the wall and his beloved "porcelain god," a gift from his cronies (it must be a college thing).

It is not surprising that Stansbury loves to paint; he is from a family of artists, though they all express themselves in different mediums. He is the only one in the family to make art his career, though it was never his original goal. Stansbury earned two bachelor degrees at Auburn, one in exercise physiology and one in nursing. But he will tell you that all that painting during his carefree college days led him to become a self employed artist. "It is safe to say James Brown freed me.
